PROCLAIMING OCTOBER 6, 2011 AS BANGOR LAND TRUST DAY
WHEREAS, The Bangor Land Trust was founded in October 2001 with the purpose of conserving Bangor’s
significant natural areas for public benefit; and
WHEREAS, The Bangor Land Trust’s mission is to protect in perpetuity for public benefit significant lands
and waters and their natural, agricultural, scenic, and traditional values and characteristics;
promote general and scientific understanding of the region's natural resources and the need for
their preservation; support collaboration with other organizations having similar or related
missions; and
WHEREAS, Bangor’s open space allows its residents to enjoy the outdoors for recreational, educational,
scientific and contemplative purposes; and
WHEREAS, being in the outdoors is of proven benefit for health and well being; and
WHEREAS, The Bangor Land Trust has preserved over 400 acres of acres, upgraded several miles of trails
and cleaned their woods of trash; and
WHEREAS, the Bangor Land Trust preserves are an important addition to the Bog Boardwalk and the City
Forest and attract visitors to our City, and
WHEREAS, the Bangor Land Trust has worked cooperatively with the City of Bangor, the Caribou Bog-
Penjajawoc Corridor Project, Bangor Trails, Maine Trail Finders, the Trust for Public Land, local
landowners, the Bangor school system, institutions of higher learning, the health care
community and many local businesses.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, SUSAN M. HAWES, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF BANGOR, on behalf of the Bangor

City Council and citizenry, do hereby recognize The Bangor Land Trust on the occasion of its 10 anniversary
and further recognize the reward of their efforts to improve the quality of life that makes Bangor a unique place
in which to live and raise a family.
