HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010-06-28 Proclamation RECOGNIZING AND CONGRATULATING BANGOR HIGH SCHOOL FOR ITS SELECTION AS ONE OF AMERICA’S BEST HIGH SCHOOLS WHEREAS, Bangor High School provides a challenging, diversified, and comprehensive curriculum provided by dedicated faculty and administration members; and WHEREAS, Newsweek Magazine annually identifies the best high schools in America based upon student achievement in Advanced Placement, College Level Courses and Test Results; and WHEREAS, only 1,600 high schools made this highly selective list representing approximately 6% of all public schools in the United States; and WHEREAS in Maine, only 4 high schools were selected, including Bangor High School; and WHEREAS, this national recognition is a testament to the students at Bangor High School as well as faculty, administration, parents and families; and WHEREAS, this honor affirms the School Department’s mission of academic excellence for its students and reinforces the high school’s designation as a Blue Ribbon School by the United States Secretary of Education. NOW, THEREFORE, I, RICHARD I. STONE, COUNCIL CHAIR OF THE CITY OF BANGOR, on behalf of the City Council and the citizens of Bangor, do hereby recognize and congratulate Bangor High School and the Bangor School Department for selection to this prestigious list of America’s Best High Schools. Students, faculty, administration, parents and families should take pride in this selection and the on-going commitment to provide top quality education to the youth of our community.
