Recognizing the Bangor Fire Department for Receiving Maine HeartSafe Community
Platinum Designation
WHEREAS, early recognition of the signs and symptoms associated with sudden cardiac arrest, heart
attack, and stroke, coupled with immediate access to emergency services and prompt
medical treatment, are critical for saving lives, reducing disabling conditions and medical
costs, and preventing future occurrences; and
WHEREAS, for its efforts in identifying, recognizing, and preventing sudden cardiac arrest and stroke
in the Bangor area, the Bangor Fire Department has received Maine HeartSafe Community
recognition; and
WHEREAS, this program, sponsored by Healthy Maine Partnerships, the Maine Cardiovascular Health
Program, and Maine Emergency Medical Services, recognizes EMS programs and
community partners, including Bangor Region Public Health and Wellness, who offer CPR
and other cardiovascular prevention programs, promote and distribute cardiovascular
education and awareness materials, and have a well-established cardiac defibrillation
program; and
WHEREAS, the Bangor Fire Department has received the Platinum Designation, the highest level of
distinction, as a result of the City’s Priority Medical Dispatch program, Advanced Cardiac
Life Support services including paramedic staffed ambulances and ALS fire engine
response, and its ongoing process of evaluating and improving the cardiac and stroke
‘chain of survival’ in Bangor;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GERRY G.M. PALMER, JR., MAYOR OF THE CITY OF BANGOR, on behalf
of the City Council and the citizens of Bangor, do hereby recognize and congratulate the Bangor Fire
Department for receiving the Maine HeartSafe Community Platinum designation. We specifically
recognize Firefighter/Paramedic Jeff Brown for his work and efforts that led to this designation. The City
of Bangor and its citizens are well served by the Department and these important lifesaving services.
