WHEREAS the United nations M a powerful instrumant for guarding
m nd against the calmity of war and for establishing the rule of law
among nations; and
iiNElfl'A9 the United Nations has danonstrated its ability to assist
In the orderly progress of dependent peoples toward self-government;
to help those who live in underdeveloped areae to become self-sustaining
and to drive back the forces of disease and poverty wherever found; and
WHEREAS the United States supportsthe United Nations with unswerving
loyalty as it wrks to advance the economic, soclal, and spiritual wall -
being of all peoples; and
WHEREAS the General Asseably of the United Nations has resolved that
October twmry-fourth, the anniversary of the coming into farce of the
United Nations Charter, should be dedicated each year to making know
the purposes, principles, and acconplishm ats of the United Nation;
and
UREREAS the President of the United States her proclaiped Monday,
October 24, 196ps as United Nations Day, and
WHEREAS the cltisms of this c0®mnity desire to dmnonstrate their
faith in, and support of, the Utate i Nations and to contribute to a
better understanding of its aims, problems and achlevementa; and
;SIEREAS there w111 be on October 21st a United Nations Forum held
at the Bangor N cipal Auditorium and which will be of great value in
calling to the attention of our citizens the importance of the United
Nations;
NOW WERIMPE an on behalf of our commmSty do hereby urge all our
citizens to observe October 21 and October 24, 19601 as United Nations
Days, and to continue to support the United Nations in a constructive meiner.
