HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008-10-27 Proclamation PROCLAIMING NOVEMBER 8 TO 15, 2008 AS MAINE RECYCLES WEEK IN BANGOR WHEREAS, the City of Bangor began curbside collection of recyclables in 1990; and WHEREAS, the recycling program has grown to include a regional processing center; and WHEREAS, this regional processing center processes recyclable material from at least 32 area communities and commercial haulers; and WHEREAS, since 1998, the City of Bangor has taken the lead in a regional Household Waste Collection Day; and WHEREAS, this collection day removes substantial quantities of hazardous materials from the environment; and WHEREAS, the City of Bangor’s recycling efforts have contributed to a cleaner environment and better quality of life for it’s residents; and WHEREAS, Keep Bangor Beautiful has been an active and effective partner in the recycling efforts of the City; NOW, THEREFORE, I, SUSAN M. HAWES, COUNCIL CHAIR OF THE CITY OF BANGOR, on behalf of the City Council and citizens of Bangor, do hereby proclaim November 8 through November 15, 2008 as Maine Recycles Week in the City of Bangor. I urge all of our citizens to set aside time during that week to review their actions in support of recycling, identify additional steps that they can take to increase their participation in this effort, and recommit to the important role that recycling plays in protecting our environment and maintaining our quality of life.
