To the Bangor City Council:
Sidney W. Sondes, President of Bangor Downtown Merchants Bureau,
Bangor Chamber of Commerce, has requested that consideration be given to
the erection of signs in our City to aid motorists in finding the main
business area.
The Bureau feels that with the intricacies of the new highway system
it Is difficult for visitors to find their way to restaurants, service
stetione and stores, and believes that the placing of these Proposed
signs will fill a most and will be welcomed by those availing themselves
of their convenience.
Members of the Bureau believe that signs should be placed at Inter-
state Highway exits explaining that arrows will show the way to the down-
town area. The green used on Present street signs is desirable because
of the reflectorized surface.
Drawings of suggested signs are attached.
The Bureau requests that at least six of the large signs be placed
at Interstate 95 exits as follows:
Main Street -- "tin bridge"
" -- near The Fuel Mart
Hammond Street
Broadway (2 signs)
Outer State Street -- near Mt. Hope
It is thought that three dozen strategically Placed arrows will
complete the installation.
Will the Council elapse refer this for Prompt study and recommenda-
tion.
Respectfully,
a
Cha Srmen
