RECOGNIZING THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE MAINE ARMY NATIONAL GUARD TO
OUR COUNTRY, OUR REGION, AND OUR COMMUNITY
WHEREAS, whether at home or abroad, homeland security assignments and fighting the Global
War on Terror are inherent responsibilities of the Maine National Guard; and
WHEREAS, over 2,300 Soldiers from the Maine Army National Guard have been deployed in
support of the Global War on Terror since 2003; and
WHEREAS, in early 2010, there will be over 900 soldiers, nearly fifty percent of the Maine Army
National Guard, deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq; and
WHEREAS, personnel of the National Guard and their families have made considerable sacrifices
as a result of deployments far from home in the service of our country; and
WHEREAS, the City of Bangor recognizes the tremendous sacrifices that have been made by our
Soldiers, their Families and their Employers; and
WHEREAS, the Maine National Guard has a proven track record for success in providing military
support to civilian authorities, reacting to flooding, ice storms and hurricanes; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gerry G.M. Palmer, Jr., Mayor of the City of Bangor, on behalf of the
City Council and the citizens of Bangor, do hereby recognize the contributions of the Maine Army
National Guard and members of their families for their sacrifices and the contributions they have
made to our Country, region, and community. The personnel of the Maine Army National Guard
have consistently shown the ability to meet and exceed what the Nation, State, and Community
expect of them.
