At the time asked to lay out this road, it was my understanding that this was the extent of the Water District's request at this time. However, it now appears, s you can see, the Water District wants us to actually make a taking of the re at of the read and rough grade it. I have asked the City Engineer to givee cost estimate for this project and he indicates Best it would be necessary for usto acquire a 66 foot right-of-way from Grace B. and Stanley E. Shannon on Essex Street. The total length of that portion of the roadway which falls on Shannon property is 1, 278 feet or 1.94 acres. The total cost of the land he estimates would be $310. The partial grading of the roadway to allow proper c r for the installation of the water line would require the installation of 65 feet of 54 inch culvert at the Arctic Brook crossing and the placement of about 4,800 cubic yards of fill material at a total cast of $6, 300. 1 Would you please give me some indication as to your desires in this matter so that I may reply to the request of the Water District. Coupal, Jr. City Manager City Hall Bangor, Maine Dear Joe: Some time ago you and I discussed the extension of Grandview Avenue from Broadway to Essex Street. It was my understanding that the city owns the land which will be occupied, with the exception of approximately 1200 feet which is owned by the Shannon Estate. This matter was discussed at the regular board meeting yester- day. Since a 16 -inch pipe line from Essex Street to Broadway will be required to supply the fire protection for the new high school, the Trustees are anxious to know when title will be acquired and the proposed road rough -graded to sub -grade. Thank you for your interest in this matter. Very truly yours, BANGOR NATER DISTRICT Doruld P. Johnston DPT: j1 Superintendent
