HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008-11-10 Proclamation Recognizing the Employees of the City Clerk’s Office and Other City Employees and Election Workers for Their Outstanding Performance in Managing, Staffing, and Operating the November 2008 General Election WHEREAS, open and free elections are at the heart of the American democratic system; and WHEREAS, for our democracy to be successful, elections must be managed and staffed in a manner that promotes participation through efficient voter registration, convenient polling days and hours, and a well designed and operated system that ensures minimizing delays at the polls; and WHEREAS, the November 4, 2008 General Election was outstandingly managed, staffed, and operated in the face of unprecedented public interest and high voter turnout; and WHEREAS, as a result, the citizens of Bangor were well informed on how to register and when and where to vote and were able to fulfill their obligations as citizens in a convenient and responsible manner and with full confidence in the credibility of the process and its results; and WHEREAS, this would not have been possible without the hard work and commitment of the staff of the City Clerk’s Office, other City employees assigned to election duties, and the hundreds of election workers who assisted on Election Day and in the months and weeks of preparation proceeding it; NOW, THEREFORE, I, GERRY G.M. PALMER, JR., MAYOR OF THE CITY OF BANGOR, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE CITIZENS OF BANGOR do hereby recognize and thank the staff of the City Clerk’s Office, other City employees who assisted in the election, and the hundreds of election workers who devoted their considerable skills and abilities to ensure that the November 4, 2008 election was planned, operated, and managed in a way that allowed the citizens of Bangor to conveniently exercising their right to vote in a credible electoral process and with full faith in its results.
