HomeMy WebLinkAbout1960-02-08 88-M RESOLVEBy the Cuts, Couuil of tie City of Bangor: MSOLVBD, THAT WHEREAS the Maine Public Utilities Comaission has denied the Maine Central Railroad's Petition to abandon all passenger train service and WHEREAS under terms of the Commission's decision the Maine Central Railroad has established a passenger train schedule effective February 6, 1960, which, because of unreasonable arrival and departure hours and unnecessarily long periods in transit (see note below), is not designed to met the needs and convenience of the people of Bangor and vicinity, and is unattractive to potential patrons, and WHEREAS the City of Bangor needs and should have attractive railroad passenger -train service, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT the City Manager be instructed to request the Maine Public Utilities Commission to take whatever action is necessary to require the Maine Central Railroad, in cooperation with the Boston and thine Railroad, to establish two round -trips per day in both directions between Bangor, Portland, Boston and intermediate points on a passenger train schedule which is attractively fast and which Provides convenient arrival and departure times at major stations such as Bangor, and Boston. Note: 1. Train 94 leaves Bangor at 3:40 A.M. and requires 6 hours, 55 minutes for the trip to Boston. 2. Train NB requires 7 hours, 50 minutes for the trip from Bangor and arrives in Boston at 11:35 P.M. 3, Train W9 requires 6 houxa, 35 minutes from Boston to Bangor and arrives in Bangor at 12:55 A.M.
