In Be: Amending Section 1002 of the Building Code
In 1954, an amendment was added to the Building Code,
Section 1002, making the use of metal chimneys legal to us
in the City of Bangor; but with some restrictions relating
to the size and type of building in which it can be used.
At that time, metal or factory built chimneys were a
new item on the market, but as time went on, new methods and
materials were introduced, thus making these chimneys more
practical and now they rate very high in the construction field.
I have been in contact with other cities in Maine, most
recently with Portland, and also with other cities in the
New England area end find they now allow this type of chimney
if it has been approved and bears the Underwriters' seal of
approval.
Respectfully submitted,
Guy Ma rae
