Before m Notary Public Bangor, wine December 11, 1961 To the Bangor City Council: An individual citizens of Bangor, we, the undersigned, would like to register cur convictions on a matter that will coma before the City Council at its meeting on December 11. We understand that there will come to the Council a request to amend the lease held by the Bangor Fair operator, the purpose of this amendment being to make it possible to extend from two to three weeks the night racing schedule in connection with Hangor Fair Week. We would like to register our disapproval of this proposal to so emend the lease and thus permit the additional week of night racing. We recognize the legality of pari -mutual betting in Maine in connection with racing. We realize too a certain financial gain coming from such gambling. But we feel that moral and social problems are increased also by this legalized betting. Thus this lengthened period in which pari -mutual is legalized would not be in the best interests of our city. Any possible advantages would be more than balanced and offset by the disadvantages. Signed: BANGOR - BROWER MINISTERS' ASSOCIATION.
