Dlxwe - October 24, 1991 MEMORANDUM G'rf i.:.ti'$c){i;y.; T0: GO BVNEPT RE: EMERGENCY GENERATOR AT '1I QMAS PILL STANDPIPE I would like to bring to your attention a problem that MEI 'during hurricane Bob. Prior to the eWrm all of Us emergency generating equipment Val checked vo insure that it would function, if needed during the store. Pse radio tower generator at TTwmae Hill did not function and the electrical crew has not been able to get it rmming. There have apparently been problems with its operation in recent years but Td's latest incident appears to be unrepairable. pith winter fast approaching, Iva recommending teat this unit be replaced with a nww 5EW generator and a new automatic switchgear which will allow frequent automatic exercising of The generator under load conditions. It appears that one of the problems with the assisting unit wee that it had to be manually witched and the lack of a Positive Dreventive maintenance schsdule, combined with the age of the generator led to its present condition. In order to insure communications during emergencies, I feel that it i imperative thAt this unit be replaced as quickly as possible. Inquiries made to two suppliers indicate that a budget of £6,500.00 should be provided to furnish and install The appropriate equipment. The only reliable alternative at this print is bc haul a Portable generator be the site 1P power fails. The drawback bene will be the delays incurred until a unit is found, moved to the site and then energized. I could like to seek quotes for this equipment inmedlately as an emergency purchase . Please advise if I may proceed. tzA. Arthur R. S nekue, Director - 0. h M. cc: R. Burke P. Burgess' J. Pbley R. Harriman J. McNeil D.
