These pumps are original to the Secondary Treatment upgrade in 1992, and are well beyond their life expectancy at 27 years and maintenance issues are becoming more frequent. The electronic control and alarm system parts are no longer available. Funding to replace two pumps was approved in the FY 2018 budget. Staff, in conjunction with AECOM, the general engineering contractor, solicited two quotes to begin the replacement process. One source, Flygt, is the same manufacturer of the original equipment; and the other, Sulzer/ABS, was referred to the City by AECOM as comparable for comparison purposes. Both providers offer high quality products and dominate the market for this type of product. Staff recommendation is to purchase two pumps and the associated electronics from Sulzer/ABS, who provided the lowest quote, in the amount of $124,100.
