The building at 10 Hersey Avenue has been vacant since 2013. The Code Enforcement Department has attempted to work with the bank and property management company to repair issues ranging from a leaking roof and basement full of water to unsafe propane and oil tanks. The building was placarded in 2016 and an initial notice regarding demolition of the building was sent in June of 2017. At this time, structural deficiencies to the building, largely due to prolonged exposure to water, make this building beyond rehabilitation. A notice requiring progress towards repair or demolition was sent on December 27, 2017. No progress has been made. At this time the property is dangerous and represents a significant blight to the neighborhood. Staff recommends that property be demolished and that a lien be placed on the for the cost of demolition. This item will require a public hearing.
