Neither Committee has a defined purpose under the Ord- inance and were established primarily to give members of the public a opportunity to participate in munic- ipal governtn mne In the pastfour (4) years, the Dental Health Advisory Committee has met once (3/26/87). An attempt was made to schedule other meetings but only the lay member showed any interest because Mere were no real substantive de- cisions to be made. - The Public Health Advisory Committee was established i January 1984 when the Departments ofHealthand Welfare were combined. Several members of the existing com- mittee -mittee which primarily advised the Nursing Facility did not want to continue in that capacity so the PHAC was established. Since that time, the Committee has met twice (9/22/84 and 6/9/88). Neither agenda contained anything of substance. Rather, the meetings were updates. on the various activities of the Department. Being appointed to a committee that has no purpose and sets only rarely is a terrible let -down for people who are sincerely concerned about the city of Bangor. Ma M-ATC/jb
