Item/Subject: Amending Chapter FIT, Article 6, Section ] of the
Ordinances of the City of Bangor - Discharge of Firearms,

Commentary:
The purpose of this amendment is to probibit Ne discharge of firearms within
the boundaries of the City of Bangor. The only exception under the proposal
relates to military and law enforcement activities. Currently the discharge
of firearms is regulated by the creation of two districts. In zone 41 the
discharge of firearms is prohibited except for limited purposes of protecting
livestock or crops. In Zone k2 the discharge of firearms is permitted subject
to the requirement of obtaining permission from the property owner in writirg,
and subject to further conditions relating to distances from public ways and
dwellings.

Ordinances of the City of Bangor — Discharge of Firearms

fl T the provisions of Chapter VI1, Article 6, section 7 of the Ordinarcis of
the City of Bangor, including subsections 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, and 7.9, be repealed
and replaced with the following:
Saa. 7 Discharge of Firearms Prohibited. NO person shall fire or
discharge,o a to
be fired or discharged, any firearm as defined herein, except
as autlb[1Zed under this Section, on or inch the air space war

7-.1 Exceptions. This Section shall rot apply to the
firing or discharge of firearms at
any military exercise on view: no[ to any military
personnel or law enforcement officers in the
performance of their duties or authorized training.
7.2 Firearms Defined. 'Firearm' shall mean any weapon,
whether loaded or unloaded, which
shall expel a projectile by the action of an explosive
and includes any such weapon commonly referred to as
a pellet gun, pistol, [evolver, rifle, gun, or shotgun.
