HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-04-04 Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee Minutes , � � Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee � Minutes of April 4, 2005 � Members Present: Isaac Wagner, James Russell, John Ryan Staff Present: Frank Comeau, Tracy Willette, Brian Enman , Director's Reaort: � The Needs Assessment and Design Sub-Committee for the Multi- � Field Athletic Complex completed its report last Friday. The report will be forwarded to the Finance Sub-Committee to be included as part of the final report. � The Government Operations Committee approved the Dakin Pool fees recommended by this committee last month. They will go before the , City Council for their approval next Monday. The department budget was reviewed by the City Manager and � Finance Director. The manager is preparing the budget document to present to the City Council April 11�n Proqram Report: � The Youth Bowling Program at Family Fun Lanes is going well with � 59 participants. Tickets go on sale April 11�h for the Mother/Son Dance on April 2gtn � Mighty Mite Soccer for 2 to 6 year old children will begin April 27tn T-Ball for 5 and 6 year olds begins May 3`a � The Annual Easter Egg Hunt was held at Union Street Complex ' March 26th with approximately 150 participants. An organizational meeting will be held tomorrow night for the Adult � Softball League. r 1 � � Advisory Committee Minutes of April 4. 2005 Page 2• � Registrations continue to arrive for the 39th Annual Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Race on April 16�n � Summer Program brochures will go out to the schools prior to April vacation. � Golf Course Update: The Staff hopes to build on the enthusiasm that the ladies and men's ' associations have generated in the last couple of years. Staff has several projects planned for this year. Steps will be � installed on the 7�h tee. A stand will be erected on the 7`h tee in order to see overthe hill. The mirrorwill be removed. � A landscape consultant will be contracted to design a beautification plan around the clubhouse. The entire project will be completed in phases. L A consultant from the U. S. Golf Association wiil be hired in June to tour the facility and make recommendations to improve our turf maintenance practices. ' Several tees on the original 18-hole course will be leveled. Sand will be added to some of the bunkers in order to levei them. � Six new water and trash stations will be added to the course. � New carpeting was added to the clubhouse over the winter. Staff is in the process of painting and re-decorating the interior. � Tina and Jeff Murdy will be operating the restaurant once again this year. This wiil be the first year of beer sales on the golf course. The sale of beer on the course was approved by the City Council for weekends and � holidays on a one year trial basis. Work continues on the design and location of a new maintenance � building. � Meeting adjourned at 4:45 p.m. � Next meeting is on May 2, 2005 at 4:00 p.m. � �
