The new 7,000 square foot facility replaces the old 2,800 square foot building that had no restrooms, running � water or heat. The modern facility has plenty of work area and it is no longer necessary to transport equipment to the Parks 8 Rec Center to be repaired. Staff is extremely pleased with their new surroundings. Total � cost of the project including the new sewer line down Webster Avenue to Perry Road is about $725,000. � Work on the new Dakin Pool House is progressing slowly. Eastern Maine Community College built the building at the college and � transported and erected it on site. The County Jail will provide some labor to help complete the project. It may be necessary to hire some contract labor to finish the job. ! It is the hope of staff that the pool house will be ready for the opening of the swim season June 20m. Construction of the pump house � will begin affer the swim season. The existing building will remain in place until the new pump house is in place. The Friends of Dakin are to be congratulated for keeping the pool open and raising over $142,000 for the � project. � i � � Minutes of Mav 7 2007 P°°e ��' � The new playground equipment for Williams Park will be installed � about May 21�. Bids will be open ihis week for the sealing and painting of ' the basketball court in the park. The proposed fiscal year 2008 budget for the department is up � nearly $100,000. The prime factors are a 49% increase in health insurance and cost of living and merit pay increases. There are no new programs or large capital proJects in the budget request. � The golf course is an enterprise fund and receives no tax dollars. It � is self sustaining. The told budget request is $660,000. We project a proflt of nearly $80,000 with $60,000 going to pay down the debt service for the new maintenance building. The remaining $19,954 will be split between ' the golf course and recreation reserve accounts. Proaram Reaort: � The annual Father/Daughter Dance sold out once again this year with 750 in aflendance. � Tickets are on sale for our Mother/Son Dance this Friday at the � Bangor Motor Inn Conference Center. The Cardboard Carnival, co-sponsored by WKIT Radio, had , approximately 50 entries and 150 spectators this year. The Youth Bowling Program at the Family Fun Bowling Center had 39 , participants. Mighty Mite Soccer has 117 participants this year. University of � Maine Womens Soccer Coach Scott Atherley has assisted with this program for several years. � Instructional T-Ball has 27 youth participating this spring. The 415t Annual Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Race was once again ' successful with 452 boats and 812 paddlers. Nine course records were set because of the high water conditions. Information will also be available on the website soon. � Golf Course Re�ort: � The goif course opened April 25th and is in great condition. Play has been steady and is increasing as the course dries up. The new maintenance facility has a few exterior items to be completed in order to � finish the project. Staff is very happy with the facility. It is an asset to have all the tools and equipment on site. ' A couple of the projects planned for the summer include leveling some of the tees on the 18-hole course and doing some drainage work. A few more cart paths wiil also be rebuilt and paved this summer. The Mens ' and Ladies Associations will be starting their tournaments within the next week. Staff is also hoping to have a Seniors League in the near future. � ' � The meeting adjourned at 4:45 p.m. Next meeting will be Monday, August 6 at 4:00 p.m. , ' � 1 � 1 1
