One change from the original design was the addition oi toilets in each changing room and the reducHon from six to four shower ' heads in each shower room to accommodate the addition of the toilets. The department is currently negoflating the possibiliiy of hosting a , National 6lualification Girls 16 and Older Soffball Tournament in June. The tournament will attract about iwelve teams trom across the country. , The Park Staif has been making and maintaining ice on the six oWdoor skating rinks the last couple of weeks. ' The turnace af the gol(course clubhouse was installed on December 7"' and is up and running. Work continues on the air condiHoning system. ' Prank noted that work on the budget will begin soon and that he anticipates a tight budget year. He plans to keep Capifal ProJects to a , minimum and will not be requesting any new positions. One proJect that should be done is the replacement of the deck at Union Sireet Pool. Worst case scenario ls $150,000, depending on the cause of the leak around the � pool. The Director also gwe a quick rundown of general fund revenues(or the department. ' Ski/Snowboard Lessons begin this Tuesday. There are currently 42 people (10 snowboarding, 32 skiing) registered, compared to 28 last year. fie department will not provide transportation this year. Recreation Programmer , Kristi King will be at the mountaln each week to monitor the program. ' The 2nd Mnual Cardboard Camfiral is scheduled (or February 23rd at Essex Street Hill. The departmerrt will be a part of the May Festival-A Celebration of Generations. This event is sponsored by the University ot Maine Center on Aging. � At this time, the department will work w'r�h them to plan a May Pole Dance on the wateAront. ' �th�r B ,�ness Kevin Frazier raised the issue of the city employing many part-time ' employees that work year round without benetits, because they move irom one department or division to another over the course of the year. He noted that he spoke with Bob Farrar about this and was told that a study is currently being ' conducted. Mr. Farrar will report his findings to the Government Operations Committee at a later date.
