Box 3093 Le Katon, Nalne 04240 August 28, 1990 As you are well news, there we a major problem with the racing surface at Bangor Raceway this past racing season. We realize that once the 1990 a started that it was impossible to do any major work on the track and that your track people did the best job possible under the conditions that they faced. In order to get the track in proper condition for the 1991 race meet it should have the work completed before the coming winter. Failure to do this will have a detrimental effect on the 1991 racing season. I = sure chat 766 will beas_cooperative in this matter as you have been with us in the past. Theriault Director of Parks and Recreation City of Bangor 100 Dutton Street Bangor, Maine 04401 Dear Mr. Theriault: It was nmeeting with you, your staff, Mr. LUro and Mr. Cleo- denningtoelook at and evaluate the Bangor Raceway half -mile track. Mr. Luro was of great assistance in helping to provide the exact measurements and specifications of your track. These are 88 turns and 58 straightaways with an overall 10 foot slope from north to south which compliments the existing drainage system.. The facility is level from east to west. My recommendations for the rehabilitation of your race track are as follows: a. Remove and save 1500+ yards of existing stone dust to the outside. (I saved 8000 tons of stone dust at Truro Raceway in Nova Scotia.) b. .Excavate inside 35 feet of track to a depth of approxi- mately 1811. C. Fill the 35' area to a depth of one foot with bank run gravel or drainage material. d. Put the salvaged stone dust and any additional needed to build to a B" depth (1500 tons might need to be added). e. Grade and compact this to the new shape of an Euio- track. I would suggest a new type of pylon,.hub rail.. which is treated styrofoam fit into a PVC receptacle -- Cost 52000. 4 90-331 aaliei E. A ballpark estimate at this time, based upon my experience of working with 80 different tracks, would be $100,000 tops, although this figure could be considerably less. I could return for a three-day period and, working with Mr. Luro, I would provide a ore accurate figure. This period would be for my basic fee of $750 per day plus expenses which would be part of the total project cost. This work should be done within the next few weeks to ensure project completionbefore cold weather sets in. sincere//yo aflea E.
