I........................ / Member of the Planning Board itY cl rk....n.............................. ®, Mmped to Councilman March 0. 1990 W. Tom Sawer Chairman. Bangor City Council City Nall 93 Harlow Street Bangor, Maine 04401 90-146 As you may know, my brother, Steven Neilson has been hired to fillvaant position on the City Planning Staff. Planning Director, John Lord and Ihave discussed whether this would constitute a conflict of interest with my service n the Planning Board and we base concluded that it would not. I am. however. sensitive to the fact that many in the community might perceive that con- flict of interest does in fact exist. I feel very strongly that the Planning Board moat be oe ceived a carrying out its duties in a atmosphere of total impartiality. I,therefore, feel that it is in the beat interests of the City that I resign AN position on the Planning Board. It has been a pleasure walking with the Planning Board and staff. The City is indeed fortunate to have such an intelligent and dedicated group of people serving it. - I would like to take this opportunity to volunteer to serve the City in any other position that the Council might feel appropriate. I will, of continue to serve in my present position until a replacement has been appoint- ed. Sincerely, Neils C. Neilson cc: Paul Swindson, Chairman, Planning Board John Lord, Planning Director
