WHEREAS, Manna, Inc., a private charitable corporation, has proposed to locate a homeless shelter and education facility at a site on 28 Somerset Street presently owned by the Jewish Community Center; and WHEREAS, the proposed location of the Manna, Inc. facility has generated opposition from residential property owners in the Immediate area of the proposed facility; and WHEREAS, a group styling itself 'Friends of Broadway' has been formed to represent the interests of certain residential property owners in the immediate area of the proposed project; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED TEAT the City of Bangor hereby supports the efforts of Friends of Broadway and Manna, Inc. to resolve their differences over the proposed siting of the Manna, Inc. facility and hereby ancourages the two organizations to meet together for the purpose of resolving their differences. 92-397 Assigned to Councilor Frankel, August 24, 1992 o CITY OF BANGOR (TITLE) �6330117P,.....E¢ao¢raginH--EEfpxka..gE.....'.'Fxienda._aE_Bxpadway"__and_- Manna, Inc. to Find an Alternative Location for Homeless Shelter Facility Proposed for 28 Somerset Street By � City Council efNs City OfBaAmm: RESOLVED, wBBRBAS, Manna, Inc., a private charitable corporation, has proposed to locate a homeless shelter and education facility at a site on 28 Somerset Street presently caned by the ,Jewish Community Center; and WHEREAS, the proposed location of the Manna, Inc. facility has generated opposition from residential property owners in the immediate area of the proposed location; and WHEREAS, a group styling itself "Friends of Broadway" has been formed by residents of the area to assist Manna, Inc. in its mission to feed, educate and house Bangor's homeless population, by finding a alternative location more suitable for the proposed facility; and WHEREAS, it is in the interest of the City Of Bangor as a whole to cooperatively resolve conflicts among its residents have over proposed uses of property within the City; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED TRAT the City of Bangor hereby -- - supports -end encourages -the -efforts of Friends -of R— - Broadway and Manna, Inc. to find a location for the proposed Manna, Inc. facility that will both be more suitable to Manna, Inc.'s mission than the proposed location at 28 Somerset Street, and will avoid unnecessary intrusions into Bangor's residential neighborhoods.
