Item No. 92-371
Date .lulu 27. 1992
Item/Subject: Amentling Chapter 1, Article 3 of the Ortlinances
of the City of Bangor -- Council Rules and Orders
Responsible Department: Legal
This ordinance amendment would provide a mechanism for the Finance
Committee to review and finally approve settlements, compromises
and charge-offs of minor claims for or against the City. At
present, all claims, settlements, etc., must come to the full
Council for final approval. Under the propoeetl amendment,
disposition of claims in excess of the amounts listed would still
require full Council approval. With respect to charge-offs and
compromises of City claims, the dollar figure indicated is intended
to limit the amount of the charge-off or compromise, and not the
amount of the whole claim. With respect to self-insured claims,
the $6,000 figure chosen would allow the Finance Committee to
settle all claims for personal injury or property damagering
under the local highway law, 23 MRSA S 3655. This item has been
proposed by the Legal Department, and is intended to speed up the
City's processing of routine claims and collections accounts.
