American Cancer Society: Has alocal office at 99 Main Street, Brewer with Chris Stark as Area director (989-6550); hes an established Local Volunteer Unit (Rhonda Shirland, President), seta regularly at St Joseph Hcspital; Support Groups include Beach To Recovery (Breast Cancer Patients),Nu-Voice Club (Laryngectomy patients) and Ostomy Assoc (colon and Rectum Cancer Patients; active public education programming for youth and adults, to date 9,813 adults and 7357 youth have had educe= tonal pre entatins; 678 Penobscot County cancer patients have received patint s this past year; SS children with cancer and their siblings attended Camp Rainbow in 1391, this is a one eek camping experience (no cost to participants) at Camp Jordan. 73 Youngsters are signed up For 1992. Many of the participants a from the Greater Bangor Area because of the involvement of the EMMC Pediatric Cancer Clinic and the local YMCA. Pine Tree Society for Handicapped Children and Adults: All local volunteer and client programs are developed, promoted and admini- stered be Barbera Milllcs of Brewer (1366-9782) and Michael Noyes of Levant (889-6697), they are paid personnel who keep all of the programs available to clients in the area; Fine Tree Camp is available for clients from the area and has a wide range of participants; all programa of thePine Tree Siciety are avail- able throughout the state and they keep records an a statewide basis only. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Alliance: Mrs. Thomas (Gail) Brown s the volunteer contect person for the Bangor Area. Programs are n place for one an counseling, entry into the Compassionate Friends Support Group, and special counseling for families who have multiple births and one of the Infants dies from BIOS.
