TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
We have learned with much regret that Harness
Racing will no longer be available at Bass Park.
Harness Racing has always played a significant
role in drawing customers and tourists to the Bangor
market area.
The decision not to hold Harness Racing in Bangor -
will be a great loss to the economic viability of the
Greater Bangor area.
We urge the continuance of Harness Racing in
Bangor.

To Whom It Mat Concern:
Over the past several years harness rating at Bass Park
has had a direct impact on sales in the months that have been
relitively soft for us in recent years. Canadians have found
it very conveinent and enjoyable to stay with us and go to
the r n the evening with many coming specifally to play
the horses.
In aneconomy that i already struggling this would be a
diffinite blow our already declinling o cupancy. We need
all the activity, including harness r ing, that we Can get
to servive as a business here on main street.
Thank you for your attention and time.

Dear Mayor Soucy,
I feel that the discontinuing ofHamess Racing at Bass Park will be detrimental to
our business. Briggs, Inc sells beverages to the various Bass Park Concessions during Harness
Racing. Without Harness Racing, these sales would not be generated. Also the additional sales
to adjacent Restaurants, Convenience Stores, and Hotels would decline greatly by the reduction in
traffic flow without Harness Racing.
I hope you will be able to negotiate an agreement with a private operation so Harrress
Racing will remain at Bass Park.
Sincerely,
rnags

I would like to encourage the City Council of Bangor to reconsider
their previous position of discontinuing harness racing at Bass
Park.
Before being employed at Wholesale Depot in Bangor, I occasionally
sited Bangor for the single reason of harness racing. I'm from
Waldoboro, Maine which is in Lincoln County, and I know of many
individuals from that area that would travel to Bangor for harness
racing.
My concern s that Bangor is losing an attractive entity for the
entire area. Hotels, restaurants, and other businesses will also
share inl:the loss of this activity. The City of Bangor has a lot
to offer Maine and Canadian citizens. The elimination of harness
racing will be felt.
I do hope that the council will reconsider their position on this
The effect of losing harness racing will have a much wider
impact on the entire economy: Hopefully, the financial aspects of
the decision can be reconsidered.

THE RECENT VOTE TO CLOSE THE TRACK FOR HARNESS
RACING CAUSES CONCERN IN OUR ORGANIZATION. DUE TO THE
LACK OF HORSES IN THE AREA DRAWN HERE BY THE TRACK, WE ARE
ANTICIPATING A CONSIDERABLE SLUMP IN HORSE RELATED SALES.
PLEASE TAKE THIS INTO CONSIDERATION WHEN MAKING YOUR FINAL
DECISION.
