Harness Racing has always played a significant role in drawing customers and tourists to the Bangor market area. The decision not to hold Harness Racing in Bangor - will be a great loss to the economic viability of the Greater Bangor area. We urge the continuance of Harness Racing in Bangor. Briggs, Inc sells beverages to the various Bass Park Concessions during Harness Racing. Without Harness Racing, these sales would not be generated. Also the additional sales to adjacent Restaurants, Convenience Stores, and Hotels would decline greatly by the reduction in traffic flow without Harness Racing. I hope you will be able to negotiate an agreement with a private operation so Harrress Racing will remain at Bass Park. Before being employed at Wholesale Depot in Bangor, I occasionally sited Bangor for the single reason of harness racing. I'm from Waldoboro, Maine which is in Lincoln County, and I know of many individuals from that area that would travel to Bangor for harness racing. My concern s that Bangor is losing an attractive entity for the entire area. Hotels, restaurants, and other businesses will also share inl:the loss of this activity. The City of Bangor has a lot to offer Maine and Canadian citizens. The elimination of harness racing will be felt. I do hope that the council will reconsider their position on this The effect of losing harness racing will have a much wider impact on the entire economy: Hopefully, the financial aspects of the decision can be reconsidered.
