THERIAOLT Po Wn s.u.n s.n<I•Amoe..aMEMO T0: Ed Barrett ' PROM: Dale Thedml[ s'fC:N SbIBIECT: Adopt -A -Park DAIS: June 18, 1993 ell,, l}F bbKc G1'eir4 Staff has discussed the proposed Adopt -A -Park program with the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board several times in an effort to include input from them. We have identified twenty -than areas (see enclosed Use) of various sizes and uses and have attached a monetary value for each per year for which we shall attempt to compact with individual busineanobased upon athreeyear commitment. Asyoucansee, the program will have the potential to generate nearly $25,000 per year of private funding if we are successful in contracting for every park. At this time I do have commitments from Sam's Club (Paul Bunyan Park), Noontime Rotary (Broadway Park), Home Quarters, Alternative Energy, and interest (with probable commitments) from Doug's Shop 'n Save (Cascade Park), V F. W. (Davenport Park) and W WMJ. If crossed approves this program I would envision letters being sent out by my office to mea businesses announcing fie program arm seeking their participation, setting up a press conference, establishing appropriate signage for each park area, sending out trews releases and FS.A.s and establishing an Adopt -A -Park committee consisting of a representative from each participating business so that they amid have some input as to how their funds might be utilized. I would thus hope that the council will accept the money as dedicated funds set up in a find established by the Futures Director. Lastly, I should like to set this up in July the fust month of our new budget year. I suspect that you will want to place this on a Municipal Operations Communes agenda.
