Re: State St. park g near HMMC `
Date: D6/23/93
as a result of our conversationthe other day, I took a look at
the parking situation on State St. near HMMC. I also consulted
with Aaron Larson from public works and he agrees with the
following proposal.
The present condition allowa for parking on the south side of
State St. between Howard St. and the entrance to EMMC just west
of the Riverside Inn. From a traffic safety standpoint I think
it would be in our beet interest to remove the parking from this
area and extend the existing right turn lane east to the next
entrance (see diagram).
Currently the eastbound right turn lane ends rather abruptly
at the creat of the hill just beyond the emergency entrance.
Vehicles that got into that labs to avoidleft turning traffic
at Wing Park have only 634 ft. to merge into the single lane. By
extending the right turn lane, " would increase the ability of
through traffic to merge and eliminate cars wanting to turn into
the next entrance from having to merge. Additionally, this would
allow through traffic to continue when vehicles Were attempting
left turns onto the aide streets.
Parking on the 'north aide of State St. in this area does
not appear to interfere with traffic flow with the present
conditions.
This change would result in the elimination of 21, Parking spaces,
obviously impacting HMMC . k•,F rmc
Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
