ORDEMM,
THAT WHEREAS, the City of Bangor has had anon -going
program for landscaping public areas and planting trees in the
City's parks and right-of-ways; and
WHEREAS, the Maine Forest Service is administering a grant
assistance program funded by the so-called America the Beautiful
Grant Program, a Federally funded program for tree planting and
urban forest improvement; and
WOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDERED THAT the Bangor City Council
authorizes the City Manager to apply for a grant through the
Urban and Community Forestry Program of the Maine Forest
Service; and further authorizes the City Manager to accept said
grant and disburse the funds in accordance with the guidelines
of the grant;
AND BE IT FURTHER ORDERED THAT since the America the
Beautiful Grant Program requires the establishment of a
Community Tree Board, and since the City of Bangor has already
established the Bangor Beautiful Program which has an active and
capable Board, be it hereby enacted that the City of Bangor
establishes the Bangor Beautiful Committee as its Tree Board to
include the fallowing: Judy Vardanis, Dale Theriault, Arthur
Stockus, Cindy Stockford, Gail Rosenthal,. Pamela Jefsen, Cathy
Guerin, Jane Sail, Jerry Hughes, Craig Orff, Les Stevens, Paul
Capiello, and Rolland Perry.
STATEMENT OF FACT: The maximum award under the program is
$10,000 which most be matched by local in-kind services. The
local in-kind services will be provided by volunteers, by the
Bangor Beautiful Program, and time contributed by staff Members
in the City's Forestry Division of the Public Services
Department.
