Barrett, City Manager From: James D. Ring, City Engineer Subject: BY '93 Engineering Department Budget - Constxuction Inspection During BY '93, there have been several development projects which have involved construction of public improvements under private These public improvements include construction of roadways, sanitary sewers, storm drains, elgnalizatlon, and lighting which will eventually bec accepted as City facilities. one of the obligations of the Engineering Department is to provide Inspection services during construction of these public Improvements to protect the City's s interests. Developer required to pay for the inspection services provided by the City{however, since must of these projects surfaced after approval of the BY '93 budget, the BY '93 appropriation for providing these services is insufficient. I have discussed this matter with John (wartararo, Finance Director, and he has suggested that the BY '93 appropriation forthe Engineering Department be increased to cover the additional < of providing inspection. The City would recover those costs by payments made by Developers for such services which would be xs ceived as I would anticipate that the additional costfor us to provide inspection (and a limited amount of materials testing) for these privately constructed projects is estimated to be approximately $75,000 for Fy '93. Accordingly, I am requesting that the Engineering Department appropriation for this fiscal year be increased by $75,000 to accomplish this. I presume that this should be considered by the Finance Committee and than approved by the full Council. If you have any questions or need further information, please let an know. /-\ s, ✓h / J.D.R.
