Responsible Department: Community and Economic Development
The Maine State Housing Authority provides grant assistance to municipalities
to assist in the implementation of the Federal Affordable Housing Partnership
Act of 1989. MSHA's Municipal Infrastructure Program provides grants to
municipalities to finance infrastructure essential to the development of
affordable housing. This application would fund improvements in the New
Capehart Housing area which is being offered to Bangor forsas
s
transitional housing for households being provided rental assistance under
the General Assistance Program and for persons recovering from substance
abuse and being served by the Greater Bangor Area Shelter, Hope House and
Community Health and Counseling Services. Proposed Improvements would
include handicap access modifications, interior painting, underground fuel
taNc removal and replacement, individual unit electrical metering,
playgrounds, landscaping, basketball court, and overlay of streets, sidewalks
and parking areas. -

ORDERED,
THAT WHEREAS, the Maine State Housing Authority Municipal
Infrastructure Program provides grants to municipalities to
finance infrastructure and improvements essential to the
development of affordable housing to accomplish the purposes set
forth in the Affordable Housing Partnership Act of 1989; and
WHEREAS, municipalities that will own, manage or
actively participate in the development of affordable housing are
eligible applicants; and
WHEREAS, necessary improvements to Charleston Family
Housing tieing acquired by the City of Bangor for use as
transitional housing are eligible for funding; and -
WHEREAS, proposed improvements would include handicap
access modifications, interior painting, underground fuel tank
removal and replacement, individual unit electrical metering,
playgrounds, landscaping, basketball court, and overlay of
streets, sidewalks and parking areas;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDERED THAT: the City Council
of the City of Bangor, as the local governing body, hereby
authorizes and directs the City Manager to have prepared, sign
and submit to the Maine State Housing Authority an application
for funding under the Municipal Infrastructure Program, a copy of
which is on file in the Office of the City Clerk; and to provide
such additional information and furnish such documents as may be
required by the Maine State Housing Authority.
