Nomination Forms have been mailed to Maine Municipal Association's member municipalities
for the 1992-94 term of the Legislative Policy Committee (LPC). Bangor and Veazie comprise an
entire Semte District (District 9). Based on population and by agreement between Bangor and Veazie,
Bangor is allowed to appoint both representatives to the LPC for District 9. ]LB gp)gm(efs l e 45
ire sung, edged u arnwinted municipal officials. Veazie will appoint an alternate member
for the District The alternate may attend any of the LPC meetings and will have voting power when
one of Bangor's representatives does not attend.
The LPC is one of MMA's most important committees because it is responable for formulating
MM)ta legislative strategy. Several brochures desar bing the LPC and the electro dappointment
process are enclosed. Please post one prominently at the municipal office and distribute theto hers to
interested municipal officials.
You may have been contacted by one or more of your municipality's elected or appointed
officials asking to be appointed, or you may wish to be appointed. A vitally important consideration
in deciding whom to appoint,orin asking to be appointed, is a commitment tq Iter d the monthly
meetings and to partiuw�e in IU other wivvities described in the brochure.
Newly elected and appointed members of the 1994-1996 Legislative Polity Committee will take
office at the Convent= in October, 19N. However, Plans are mderway, to schedule a combined
meeting of the outgoing and incoming Legislative Policy Committees in September of 1994 to work
together on the 1995 Legislative Policy Statement.
Please submit your appointments to MMA by lune 30. they should be made in writing and
signed by your municipality s legislative body.
