This involves Union Street in Bangor and it's continuation into the towns of Hermon, Levant, and beyond. Currently, virtually all mdntenanw is the responsibility of individual communities, with IffiJOT only contributing financially througb Local Road Assistance Block Goods (Approx. 1,200/mile/year). Reclassification to a State Highway designation would place all maintenance responsibilities with MDOT. Such a change would be a nn benefit to the City. The other comwsnlfies have raluested Bangor's support is the reclassification effort, which would be accomplished by passage of the acmmpenying Resolve. The outcome of this meeting was unanimous support to proceed with requesting We Maine Department of Transportation (MOT) to begin the salassifieation process. Each municipality present agreed to send a letter to Commissioner Mebase urging but to consider the reclassification. At the October 5th meeting, it was agreed that support from the City of Bangor was critical W ensure the success of the reclassification request. At this mating, Rob Kermaron, RAMS Direcxr. indicated that final the decision x reclusify would not affect Bangor. However, data presemrd by john Noll. RTAC Transportation Planar, indicated that a significant percentage of the residents of Roux 222 communities commute to Bangor for work on a daily basis (72.4% for Glenbum for example). Many depend on Route 222 for their daily coverall (me ewloced data). At this point, EMDC is assisting in coordinating We reclassification effort with the MDOT.
