HomeMy WebLinkAbout1995-07-24 95-342 ORDERCOONCIL ACTION Date: July 24, 1995 Itm No. 95-342 Item/Subject: Order, Proposing Amendeent to the Bangor City Charter, Article II -A, Section 2 -- Composition, Election, Tenure of Office, etc. Responsible Department: City Council Commentary: The attached Charter Amendment would replace the current two consecutive term limitation on memhership on the Superintending School Committee with a 12 - year lifetime limit. After an individual has served for 12 complete years on the Committee, that individual would no longer be eligible to be elected to the School Comwittee in any subsequent election. This recommended change hes come forward from the City Council's Charter Comittee. It is closely related to a second proposed charter amendment which would place a similar 12 -year llfetive limit on membership on the City Council. Manager's Comments, AS noted, this change has been recommended by the Council's Charter Comittee. I anticipate there will be some discussion on this Sten, and m plan to schedule a workshop prior to the City Council meeting to review it. Should the Council wish to proceed, a public hearing on this anendaent must be scheduled. I would recommend that the hearing be set for the August 7, 1995, meeting.
