At present, signs may be up to three feet in height, or up to six feet if placed on or above the seventh floor of a building. As amended, the ordinance would allow for signs up to three feet in height on the first three floors of a building, and one additional foot of height for each floor above, to a maximum of six feet on the sixth floor and above. Committee Action Committee: Business and Economic Development Action Staff Comments & Approvals Meeting Date: January 2, 2017 For: 1 Y 1 City Manager City Solicitor Introduced for: First Reading and Referral Against: Finance Director CITY COUNCIL ORDINANCE Date: December 27, 2017 Assigned to Councilor: Nealley 18-063 12/27/2017 ORDINANCE, Amending Chapter 260, Signs, Regarding the Size of Signs in the Waterfront Development District WHEREAS, the City's sign ordinance presently allows horizontal wall signs of either three or six feet in height in height, depending on how high the signs are placed; and WHEREAS, this ordinance amendment would allow for a more nuanced approach to sign height for these signs; BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BANGOR AS FOLLOWS, THAT Chapter 260, Signs, of the Code of the City of Bangor is amended as follows: § 260-7. District -specific standards and limitations. On -premises signs must meet the standards and limitations of the zoning district in which they are located as laid out herein. E. WDD (2) Horizontal wall signs. (a) Each business shall be permitted one horizontal wall sign facing on each public right-of-way or public parking area on which it fronts or has a public entrance. [1] Any storefront or business located on the first floor shall place its horizontal wall sign below the second -floor windowsill. [2] Any business above the first floor may place its horizontal wall sign above the second -floor windowsill, provided that only one such sign shall be permitted per side of the building.
