HomeMy WebLinkAbout1985-03-22 Public Safety Committee MinutesPublic Safety Committee March 22, 1985 at 3:30 p.m. Minutes Present: Councilor Ed Brown, Chairman Councilor Arthur Tilley Councilor John Gass Joe Pate, Bass Park Director John Flynn, City Manger Tom Small, Code Enforcement/Fire Prevention Officer 1. Sign at Bass Park. The Committee met with Bass Park staff to discuss the clace- ent of a new sign on City property at the Bass Park location. Mr. Small indicated that the dimensions of the sign are okay but it is the setback requirement which requires Council permission and then Zoning Board of Appeal approval. The normal setback requirement is 15' and the placement of this. sign will be at 4-6' which will abutt the sidewalk but will not project over thesidewalk area. TheCommitteeagreed with the 4-6' setback and suggested that a chain link fence be placed around the sign to prevent vandalism. 2. Beer Concession - Canoe 'Race. The City Manager indicated that he would like to discuss the subject of a beer concession at the u ing Canoe Races. If. the City decides to go ahead with a concession, it would have to go through the formal bid process. Both the City Manager and Parks 6 Recreation Director felt that .such oncessions. should not be allowed on public property and felt that it served no constructive surpass. The Parks 6 Recreation Director will meet with the Council at their March 25th Informal Session to get their recommendation. 3. Intersection at Somerset and Essex Street. Councilor Gass asked that this item be placed on the next Committee's agenda due to accidents at the location. 4. Farmer's Market. The City Manager informed the Committee that the Farmer's market will not be located at Bass Park this year but that they were looking at Cascade Park or Cameron Stadium this year. Committee adjourned at 4:00 p.m. ,
