HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010-05-13 Harbor Committee MinutesCity of Bangor Harbor Committee Minutes Meeting: Thursday, May 13, 2010 City Council Chambers Committee Members in Attendance: Jim Ring, City Engineer; Robert Woods, Richard Reinhardt, Daniel Cassidy; Daniel Field; Harbormaster, Jerry l edwiN; Patricia Blanchette, Council Representative; Councilor Geoffrey Gratwick, Council Representative Alternate I March 11, 2010 minutes: Accepted as distributed lI Committee Chair& Committee Membership • This being Ne first meeting since the council appointments and reappointments of committee members, the position of chair was open for election. Dan Cassidy was elected to continue as chair. • It was noted that Matt Swartz has been appointed as an associate member. An invitation has been extended to Brewer to appoint a representative to this committee. • That is awaiting action by Ne City of Brewer. ID City Docks and Waterfront Activities • Jim Ring indicated that there were no private parties in a position to take on city dock management. • The Coal for Cap is nearing completion but is awaiting EPA approval for the next step. • Agency approval is also necessary before the small vessel access can go forward. It is anticipated this will go in late in the summer. • Anticipated use for 2010: o The American Cruise Line will likely have 5 visits this summer with one of their vessels requiring dock space for up to two weeks. They will have no more Nan one vessel at any one time. o The m/v Patience, the harlaunriver cruise vessel will not be rimming this season. There is significant interest in continued seasonal dock rentals • The city has revised its dock plans for this year which will consist of o Docks 1 & 3, a portion of Dock 4 for the seasonal rentals and a sufficient section of Dock 5 (Ne heavy vessel dock) to accommodate a single cruise boat. o Staffing for 20 hours for 22 weeks IV Future Issues for Committee discussion: • Plight of the "grey building" which is deteriorating • Information kiosk A joint meeting with the Parks and Ree committee. (Dan Field who also saves on this remittee will pursue this. A fall meeting was suggested, hopefully after the small vessel access is in and its utilization and potential can be assessed) • Moors and the Army Corps Permit • Collaboration with Brewer • Dock upgrade program • Ahoping center, perhaps with private grant funding y�
