Item $3 - Use Requests/Airport Paved Area Mr. McKeon briefed the
Committee on a request from A firm toutilize approximately 4 acres
of paved areae on the airport for a truck training school. This
firm would also like to build or rent a small office containing
1,000 to 1,500 sgft. adjacent to or near a training area but is
requesting some type of a guarantee for at least a year's use of
the land. He stated that the State of Maine now nabs one portion of
the airport paved area off Union Street for truck driver license
testing but with no assurance of continuance should the land be
needed for other purposes. Available paved areas are within
industrial or Free Trade zone development areas. After discussion
on such private uses and 'the difficulty of dislocating such wise
on short notice when land is needed for its intended purpose, the
Committee voted not to approve such uses, and asked that every effort
be made to accommodate and encourage these uses on other non -airport
land.
