The Commissioners reviewed and voted to accept the minutes of the previous
meeting.
The Commissioners reviewed proposals from Bangor Symphony and from
Penobscot Theatre to provide project coordination and administration services in
connection with the Discovery Research Cultural Assessment Project. Attendees
voted unanimously to accept the proposal from Bangor Symphony, subject to
funding of the grant application submitted to Maine Arts Commission.
Evelyn Silver, chair of the Programs and Grants subcommittee jpresented that
subcommittee’s recommendation to fund a $900 request from Bangor Center
Corp to help pay for signs and banners to promote its outdoor Artisans’ Market.
The subcommittee had noting that the market generates considerable foot traffic,
that it is a partner to the outdoor music concerts, and that it creates a positive
effect on regular downtown businesses, and that once it owns marketing props it
is economically self-sustaining. Attendees voted unanimously to send the
request to city council with a recommendation to fully fund it.
S. Bates reported that the FY 2007 cultural appropriation would be discussed at a
council workshop on May 10 at 6:30 p.m. Chairman Rohman will attend and will
make a presentation in support of an increased appropriation (over the current
year); he urged other commissioners who are available to also attend.
S. Bates shared a reminder from the Code Enforcement Office that work
proposed or approved by the Commission for Cultural Development for
placement in the Downtown Façade District, or in a park designated Historic,
must be reviewed and approved by the Historic Preservation Commission.
