The Commission approved the minutes of their February 23, 2007 meeting.
Evelyn Silver gave a report Report of Program and Grants Subcommittee, and its
recommendations. The Commission’s decisions are noted in CAPS:
Grant request from Bangor Public Library for $400 to fund a year of
free daily passes to the Maine Discovery Museum for Bangor Public
Library members in good standing.
THE COMMISSION UNANIMOUSLY VOTED TO APPROVE THIS
RECOMMENDATION.
Grant request from Robinson Ballet for $950 in general operating funds
to partially cover travel expenses and guest artist fees for their annual
dance.
THE COMMISSIONERS PREsENT UNANIMOUSLY VOTED TO APPROVE
THIS RECOMMENDATION.
With discovery research, assessment, and public meetings now complete, the
Commission asked John Rohman, as the Chair, to present the Draft of the Cultural
Plan (vision, strategic objectives, and annual work plan) to the Business and
Economic Development Committee of the Council. Once approved by that
committee it will be submitted to Council.
The Commissioners discussed how to gain broad based participation on the
Commission from interested members of the community and concluded that John
Rohman should suggest to the Business and Economic Development Committee
adding one non-commissioner to each of the sub-committees.
They also want to plan several meeting agendas for the next fiscal year as follows:
at least one of the commission meetings should be held in the evening to
perhaps make it easier for the public to attend;
one of the meetings should host all of the arts groups;
one of the meetings should host Fusion.
After discussion, the Commissioners developed $125,000 as their recommendation
for FY 2008 Cultural Appropriation. This is equal to the amount of the FY 2007
appropriation.
