1. Penobscot Theatre Grant Application – Scott Levy
Scott Levy reviewed his application and the content of the production
“Spunk”. Total Project Cost is $128,000. Penobscot Theatre is requesting $25,000
in a grant from the Commission on Cultural Development, to assist with the costs
associated with this production.
Chair Susan Jonason asked Scott if this production is not able to obtain all of
its projected funding will the production still go on. Scott replied ‘yes’ that it will
still go on. Also, Scott stated that the decision by NEA (National Endowment for the
Arts) to assist with funding is pending until Nov. 2009.
Scott also showed an 8 minute documentary of the “State of Union” that he
had produced. He also requested that on the Agenda for the full board meeting
(scheduled for July 30) that an item be added for review of the Maine Arts
Commission Grant w/ the Downtown Bangor Cultural group. (Scott then left the
meeting.)
Discussion continued among the members present on the funds available and
the other possibilities on upcoming grant requests by other area groups. A motion
was then made by John Rohman and seconded by Robert Zavaleta to recommend to
the full board of the Cultural Commission to grant $15,000 to The Penobscot
Theatre. The full board will meet on July 30, 2009 at 8 am, City Hall Council
