1. Welcome and Introductions
Chair Piccicinni called the meeting to order.
2. Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes
Approval of November .
3. Grant Application Review
Green Gem Holistic Healing Oasis grant application reviewed. Grant app requests $6,500
for current phase of Green Gem development. Sandy Fortin, Executive Director for the
Green Gem, was on hand to discuss application and answer questions. After much
discussion, it was determined that the project is simply not in the right phase to be
seeking grant money from the CCD (for instance, part of this funding would have paid
for city zoning fees, which seems to be a conflict). Commission agreed that there were
too many changes between what was submitted and what was currently being
presented. Mary Budd urged Sandy to reapply with more/better info, less excessive
documentation, and a strict adherence to the grant application. Sandy formally
withdrew the application, and hopes to submit a new application at a later date.
Bangor Public Library application reviewed. Requesting $150 to be used for prizes for
essay contest for kids grades 4-12, in conjunct
exhibit, 9ǣƦƌƚƩźƓŭ IǒƒğƓ hƩźŭźƓƭʹ ŷğƷ 5ƚĻƭ LƷ aĻğƓ Ʒƚ .Ļ IǒƒğƓ. Some
disappointment expressed by commissioners that there was not a BPL representative at
meeting to answer questions, but ultimately decided that this is a unique opportunity
for the BPL and our community, and could have great cultural and economic impact.
Motion to approve grant (Mary), seconded (Stephanie), and unanimous vote to
recommend to Business & Economic Development Committee.
4. Other business
Zeth mentioned that certificates of recognition will be handed out to Jane Bragg and Ivy
Clear-Forrest (Bangor Ballet) and Keith and Maureen Robinson (Robinson Ballet) at
upcoming City Council meeting on Monday, December 12. The CCD had recommended
presenting these certificates earlier this year, on the occasion of the retirement of all
the aforementioned individuals.
Judy Boothby, via phone, summed up her experiences as an outgoing commissioner and
praised the progress that the CCD has made over the years. The impact on arts and
culture throughout Bangor cannot be overstated.
Chair Piccininni looked forward to an exciting 2017, led by new Chair Mary Budd, Vice
Chair Stephanie Harp, and a group of new incoming commissioners.
