Excused Absent: Elisabeth Young, Marianne Lynch
1. Welcome and Introductions
Chair Piccicinni called the meeting to order.
2. Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes
Approval of September minutes postponed.
3. ARTober Update
Emily Burnham reported on a great opening night party at 58 Main, the BSO event at
Nocturnem, events at the UMaine Museum of Art, and more with many more events
yet to come. Big thanks to Beal College and the Maine Community Foundation.
4. Nominations Chair and Vice Chair
Stephanie Harp nominated Emily Burnham, but this is Emilys last year with the CCD.
Kierie nominated Mary Budd for Chair, seconded by David Zelz, unanimous approval.
5. Committee Updates
Emily/Marketing: committee consumed with ARTober. Great response to the brochure.
ARTober is a testament to the strength of community. Elisabeth Young can give a better
update next month, but they are working very hard to get website launched.
Mary/Funding: Last spring we tried for grants, denied but with feedback re: expanding
scope of our proposal to be more of a city-wide plan re: moving city forward with arts
and culture initiations. Hoping to look more deeply at that. Perhaps not sustainable to
fund on initiative like ARTober year after year. Emily suggested looking for sponsorships
to fund ARTober rather than a grant that way you engage community sponsors, more
sustainable and funded locally. Kierie mentioned that a big-picture plan was submitted
to Community & Economic Development office for future third-party efforts.
Education: upcoming grantwriting workshop at the Bangor Public Library.
rd
Advocacy: 3 quarter of AEP5 study wrapped up.
6. Other Business
Penobscot Theatre grant report just came in. Kierie extremely impressed with that
project and the grant. Mary Budd commented that the production was successful
beyond wildest dreams, with an incredible impact. Hugely ambitious project. City has
fueled something that will endure.
Guest speaker Sandy Fortin from the Green Gem spoke about researching the history of
their property. The story is rich culturally, including Olmstead landscaping, first
playground in the city, with history dating back to Civil War and Native Americans.
Hoping to share with community what they are learning about the Bangor region at
large.
Future Commission Meetings (8:30 a.m. in Council Chambers):
Dec 8, 2016 (grant reviews)
