Commissioners Present: Kierie Piccininni (Chair), Emily Burnham, Judy Boothby, Tom
Avila, Elisabeth Young, Stephanie Harp, David Zelz, Heather Magee, Mary Budd, and

1. Welcome and Introductions
2. Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes
Minutes for March’s meeting were approved.
3. Public forum
Need to find another venue and date for the upcoming Public Forum. Settled on date of

May 17 at 6pm, location TBD.
4. Committee updates
Cultural Vibrancy: Judy Boothby spoke with Four Directions in Orono, a group
representing Native American tribes in Maine, to get the word out about potential
public mural opportunities for Native American artists down the road.
Marketing: Elissa Young set a date of April 26 to meet re: ARTober and the CCD website
project. More info at the next meeting in May.

Advocacy: Chair Piccininni provided an update on 1 Quarter surveys, which are on track
as expected.

Education/Funding: Heather Magee provided an update on the May 10 publishing
event – invites have been sent out to potential speakers. Tom Avila noted the need to
pause and reorganize on why the CCD is applying for funding, and how to use potential
funding in the best possible way.
5. Other business
Heather Magee suggested that the new website rollout include bios of committee
members. Judy Boothby suggested a discussion re: moving towards arts advocacy model
akin to Portland’s, which is removed from the city itself. Chair Piccininni reminded that

next deadline is May 1 for new funding cycle, with a one-month review period to
follow. At June meeting, we will go through applications.
