HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-10-12 Commission on Cultural Development Minutes City of Bangor, Commission on Cultural Development th October 12, 2017 8:30 a.m. Council Chambers, City Hall, 73 Harlow Street, Bangor Commissioners Present: Mary Budd (Chair), Liam Riordan, Allen Adams, Kim Stewart, Katelyn Chase (Staff), Tanya Emery 1. Welcome Chair Mary Budd called the meeting to order. 2. Approval of September Meeting Minutes Bump to November for approval. 3. CCD Funds and ARTober Budget Katelyn Chase provided a budget update. The Cultural Commission received $1250 total from 5 local sponsorships, with a $326.39 carryover from 2016, totaling a budget of $1,576.39 for ARTober 2017. Thus far, expenses Printing ($112.63) total $1,612.63. Mary Budd informed the group that The Maine Edge would be sending an invoice for $700.00, for ARTober advertising through the month of October, bringing the total expenses to $2,312.63, meaning the additional $736.24 will need to be taken out of normal CCD funds. 4. ARTober Kickoff Discussion Liam Riordan updated the group on the success of the ARTober kickoff, noting that there was a successful turnout at the new BAE space totaling 200-300 attendants throughout the evening. grant and AEP5 handout. 200-300 people in total, 100+ in space at a time. An overall great variety of performances (student performances and classical performances), student artwork and participation. Overall the group was in agreement that the event went very well and greatly helped promote ARTober. 5. AEP5 Handout Chair Mary Budd recapped the AEP5 report, stating that the report was published last June, and presented to the committee in July. The group agreed that the audience the information is shared with should be expanded. A rack card or brochure sized handout was suggested to be distributed to the local community. Mary has started several conversations with designers for the project. The approximately $500. 6. Green Gem Grant Update 1500 grant was awarded to Green Gem, on conditional terms that they move forward in resolving zoning and building issues. When the grant was awarded to Green Gem, no timeline was given to resolve the issues, however no progress has been made. The group agreed to reach out to the organization, giving them 90 days to apply for a zone change and draw up a plan to resolve building issues, otherwise the grant will be rescinded and made available for the upcoming spring grant. 7. Other Business nd Launchpad: They have received half of payment, will receive 2 half contingent on completion (getting the mobile site up and running, updating the online schedule and updating Mike Fern of The Maine Edge on events and updates.) 8.
