3. ARTober planning and RFP
Recap of 2016 ARTober: raised and spent $5k. Survey feedback not as strong as first
year. Realizing limitations of the CCD, looking to external marketer/consultant to run
the whole show this year. Zeth brought sample RFP to look at commissioners asked to
look at timeline and details. Can we extend the dates? Can we issue a draft? Questions
of compensation and wording, etc.
Mary asked for a volunteer(s) to shepherd ARTober into this next phase; Liam and Kim
offered to co-volunteer. Zeth will research questions, revise RFP, and communicate w/
Liam and Kim before making it public.
4. Committee Updates
CǒƓķźƓŭ: Recently met to discuss revising applications for grants, and using grant app for
Maine Philanthropy Center as a guideline. Currently individual artists are required to
match grants one-to-one, where organizations required half-to-one. Also looking into
changing language of how funds can be spent currently artists who dont use
materials (poets, musicians, etc) are discouraged from applying since the grant funds
wouldnt necessarily apply to them. Kim suggested a workshop for artists to ask them
what theyd want to see on app in order to get them interested to apply/get involved.
Discussion of possibly changing deadlines back to two per year instead of four.
Owen asked about a way to open grants up to ƓƚƓ non-profits, i.e. supporters of the
arts, perhaps a separate pool of grant money. Mary added that the citys support of
non-profits has plummeted in recent years, she would have concern about funds for
non-profit arts orgs being used elsewhere.
ağƩƉĻƷźƓŭ: website still being worked on, waiting on update from Elissa at next meeting.
