Amending Chapter 260, Signs, of the Code of the City of Bangor, By Amending Sign Requirements for Contract
Downtown Development District Parcels
Summary
This ordinance would amend the City's sign code by allowing contract Downtown Development District (DDD)
parcels that were previously zoned Shopping and Personal Service (S&PS) or General Commercial and Service
(GC&S) to retain the sign requirements of their previous zoning.
Several contract DDD parcels in the City are outside the downtown area. This is typically done when a
proposed use for a parcel would not meet a requirement of the previous zone, such as a setback. As these
parcels are typically in areas surrounded by other S&PS or GC&S parcels, sign standards of those zones are
more appropriate than DDD sign standards.

ORDINANCE, Amending Chapter 260, Signs, of the Code of the City of Bangor, By Amending Sign
Requirements for Contract Downtown Development District Parcels
WHEREAS, there are a handful of contract DDD parcels in the City that are outside the downtown area; and
WHEREAS, as such parcels are generally in areas surrounded by other S&PS or GC&S parcels, sign
requirements for the latter zones are appropriate for such contract DDD parcels;
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BANGOR AS FOLLOWS, THAT
Chapter 260 of the Code of the City of Bangor be amended as follows:
§ 260-7. District -specific standards and limitations.
On -premises signs must meet the standards and limitations of the zoning district in which they are located as
laid out herein.
D. DDD. Every on -premises sign that requires a sign permit shall comply with the following regulations:
LL21 Contract DDD. Parcels that were previously in the S&PS or GC&S district, but are now in the
Downtown Development District pursuant to a contract zone change adopted pursuant to 165-7 of
this Code, shall use the standards and limitations for the S&PS and GC&S districts found in § 260-
