Galen Cole add the Cole Foundation will be erecting a World Har II memorial on the grounds of the Cole Land Transportation Museum. The full cost of the memorial as well as future maintenance of it will be fully borne by the Foundation. The memorial will feature a World War II jeep and G.I. It will be cast in bronze and placed on a granite pedestal which will also hold memorial plaques honoring World War II veterans of Maine and Bangor. In Bangor's 1945 Report of Municipal Services (see attached), the City expressed its intention to erect such a memorial. This intention was never fulfilled. The memorial which will be erected will meet this intention and will add to our community's memorials to those who have served in armed conflict. WHEREAS, the City of Hangars Report of Municipal Services for 1945 stated, "It is the avowed intention of your city to erect a memorial that will, for a long time yet to suitably c rate the unselfish devotion" of those citizens of Bangor and Maine who served their country in the Armed Forces during world War II; and WHEREAS, 4,476 citizens of Maine and 110 residents of Bangor gave their lives for their country during that conflict; and WHEREAS, the City of Banger has consistently supported efforts to recognize and remember those who have fought for antl served their country; and WHEREAS, the Galen Cole Family Foundation has undertaken the construction and placement of a World War II Memorial on the grounds of the Cole Land Transportation Museum, which will honor all Maine veterans who served in World War II; and WHEREM, this monument will specifically mention the 110 citizens of Bangor who died in thisconflict and will " direct visitors' attention-totheBangor Public Library which displays a record of the lives of each of these honored citizens; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVBB BY THE CITY COUMCIL OF THE CITY OF 'BANGOR, MAINE, THAT we hereby support the efforts of Galen Cole and the Galen Cole Family Foundation to erect a World War I1 memorial to recognize and commensurate the unselfish devotion of Bangor and Maine veterans of World WarII. Further, we hereby express our appreciation to Galen Cole and the Cole Penally Foundation for undertaking thin project in fulfillment of the intentions of the Bangor City Council of 1945.
