Stocker Date: 08/1111996 Subject: Expensesjor City Cemeteries 96-403 Fax Nbip ]6]1 OWe/d ceiM. I am forwarding a memo from Jerry Hughes, Cemetery Superintendent regarding; some equipment needed fa the danderies and not budgeted, replacement of culverts washed am during successive storms earlier this year and foully modest expansion to the Pine Grove Cemetery. Jerry bas outlined the need fm the respective items in the attached memo and I would cower with his assessment. It has been the practice to fund capital equipment purchases for the cemeteries from this interest accormt rather thin burden the operating budget of the cemeteries. here me funds taken from tht matter account, manually, to help defray the costs of operation of the cemeteries during the year. The funding we are estimating for Mount Hope Coronary is as aresult of an an ofmaum%due to the washouts of three culvert. lea need for additional equipment in the form of weed wacken is apart of the normal equipment replacement or enhancement regaved with aging equipment. The expansion of Pine Grove Cemetery has become mom impovant as more inquhies are surfacing for families with loved ones interred in Pine Grove. We we also receiving inquiries from funeral duemom along theft lines with some families outpacing that they can assist m dealing Ne necessary expansion. I would recommend that the City fend all [ores parts of this request and would ask if them is my additional informadoo that I can Provide to assist in the process oft msfeming the required funding to the operating or capital accounts. PC; J. Hughes D. Pellegrino 96-403 To: Arthur Stockus From: Jerry Hughes Date: Wednesday, August 21,1995 Subject: Transfer of Perpetual Care Interest Moneys This memo is intended as a follow up of our conversation last weak regarding the cometery expansion project at Pinegrove Cemetery, culvert replacements at W. Hope and Me purchase of two (2) weed wackers for Me cemetery. As you will remember we anticipated pulling Me funds from the Perpetual Care Interest Earnings Account to cover the items listed above. The cemetery expansion project is a project that was scheduled for completion in July of 1994. During that time period we were contemplating expanding Pinegrove because of Me lack of additional burial spaces. We have new been faced with no additional burial — spaces for a two year period. Residents continue to call this office and are requesting to purchase burial plots in Pmagrove. Eventually, l will have to be truthful with Mese residents and inform Mem that the expansion project has been eliminated. Please note Mere ¢ enough revenue in Me Perpetual Care Earnings account to cover the cost of the expansion project. The expansion project will give us a minimum of 114-2 grave lots and should provide us with enough burial spaces to cover a ten year period. The initial investment for the projects will be approximately $15,000 and will include pin placement, additional learn and an access read. Providing that Me 114 two grave lots are sold at current prices. $57,000 of revenue will be obtained from this development. AT a time when every department is being analyzed for cost savings it would appear Mat the cemetery is not a high priority. In this particular case however, the money needed .for Mis development is available in Perpetual care accounts that are designated for cemetery use only. Persons who visit this cemetery regularly ward some sot of assurance that space will be available. They are impressed with the aesthetically pleasing environment and want to be buried close to their loved ones. The culvert replacement project at Mi. Hope is desperately needed. Three culverts must be replaced on Severance St., Webster Ave and Me Woods Road. The cost of the culverts for all three locations is $580.1 have estimated that labor and equipment costs for this project will be an additional $1,600. 96-403 After talking with Matt regarding the Purchase of gas hedge trimmers, Ma@strongly suggests that we purchase two (2) weetl wackers instead of Me hedge frimmers. These hems will cost approrimately $400. I am requesting tlrer: $17,480 be transferred form the Perpetual Care Interest Account to cover the cost of gie cemetery expansion, the purchase of 2 weed snickers and Me culvert replacement at Mt Hope. Please refer this request b the Finance Committee at your eadieat convenience. Ifyou have any questions regarding the estimates I have provided please commit with Matt knovAes or myself. Sincerely, Jerry Hughes
