Commentary:
Councilor Tyler has requested the introduction of the attached
Resolve. It .calls for wider dissemination oftheCity's Mission
Statement to include posting the statement in the Council
Chambers and City operating locations where it will be available
to both employees and members of the public. In.addition, it
calls for inclusion of the Mission Statement in the City's
Personnel Rules and Regulations.

RESOLVED, _
WHEREAE, the City Council has adopted a Mission Statement for the
City of Bangor outlining our unique heritage and our
commitments and goals for the future; and
WHEREAS, this statement defines our commitment to maintain and
improve our quality of life, promote public health and
well being, and respond to the public through the
efficient and effective delivery of public services; and
WHEREAS, this statement also sets goals for the City which include
ensuring safety and security, maintaining and improving
the quality of our infrastructure, providing managed
community and economic growth, maintaining excellent
public education, and safeguarding our financial
resources; and
WHEREAS, this statement recognizes that our mission will be
accomplished only through the active involvement of our
employees; and
WHEREAS, this Mission Statement should be made available on an on-
going basis to our employees and our citizens.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED By THE CITY COUNCIL OF ME CITY OF
BANGOR, TEAT: Efforts to provide for wider distribution of the
City's Mission Statement should be undertaken in order to ensure
that this statement is readily available to the City Council,
staff, and our citizens. To this end, this Statement shall:
1. Be conspicuously posted in the City Council Chambers;
2. Be included in the revised personnel rules and
regulations once finalized and adopted;
3. Be posted and available to City employees and citizens in
City operating locations; and
9. Be made available to all new employees as an element of
the employee orientation process.

MISSION STATEMENT
Bangor is the finest and most unique City in Maine because of the
-character of our people, our work ethic, our multi -cultural heritage,
our role as a regional center and international gateway, and our
pride and commitment to our community.
In order to ensure that this uniqueness is continued and
strengthened, Bangor's City Government is committed to maintaining
and improving our quality of life, promoting public health and well
being, and responding to the needs of our citizen -owners through
efficient and effective delivery of essential public services.
To meet these commitments, our goals for the future are:
To ensure the safety and security of our citizens by
providing superior police and fire departments;
To maintain and improve the quality of our infrastructure
and public facilities;
To provide job opportunities, increase income, and enhance
our tax base through managed community and economic growth;
To administer and support essential health and welfare
services;
To maintain excellence in our system of public education;
To strive to provide a challenging and fulfilling work
environment that attracts, develops, and retains
conscientious, innovative and productive employees;
To responsibly safeguard and account for the financial and
other resources provided to us by our citizens.
We believe that the employees of the City are its most important
resource. Only through than will o n be accomplished. We
